Approximately 60% of a facility’s maintenance costs are allotted to keeping floors clean and properly maintained. Floor matting is an easy and cost effective way to protect your investment in your flooring. Let the mat trap the dirt and dust before it gets into your carpets and on your floors
Considering all the different types and lengths of floor matting available it can be slightly overwhelming choosing a floor matting strategy. The general (and best) rule of thumb is you want 12 to 15 feet of entry way matting before a person steps on the floor. At that length each person is taking around four to five steps on the matting removing 80 to 85% of the dirt they would track inside.
The first, and most obvious reason to use floor matting is for esthetics. The less dirt that’s tracked in the better your floors will look, it’s far from rocket science. Reducing the amount of dirt tracked in will prolong the life of your floor finish. This is an especially important consideration for gym floors as the slightest amount of dirt can cause the floor to feel slippery increasing the slip and fall risk.
For entryway matting you’ll want to incorporate scrapper & scraper/wiper mats. A properly strategized floor matting program will incorporate both of these types. Entryways are great locations for custom mats so when visitors, students, customers, clients and employees wipe their feet, they are staring directly at your logo or brand.
Scraper Mats are the first responders of the floor matting world. These mats are the most durable and typically placed outside to remove heavy soils from a person’s shoes before they enter the building. Our scraper mat, The Eco Dirt Stopper, will not only stand up high traffic and the elements but it is also made from 95% recycled tires making it an ecologically sound choice as well.
Scraper/Wiper mats are a versatile option suitable for both inside and out. They aren’t as durable as scraper mats so for outdoor use they should be placed in covered areas, these are the mats you’ll want to utilize for walk-off areas. We offer many options but the Ridge Runner and Aqua Dam mats are our two most popular options and both are proven to hold up well regardless of placement.
